Once upon a time, two girls were born. The first, Kristen, became a baker at an early age – using her four hungry brothers as guinea pigs in her baking endeavors. The second, Stacy, small but mighty, badgered her older brother and neighborhood kids into taste-testing her confections.
In 1994 Kristen and Stacy met at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and became roommates for the next four years. They lived in a variety of apartments (i.e. closets) – none of which were conducive to baking (some barely conducive to living). Although forced into years of pizza and Ramen noodles, they never gave up their passion for baking – watching lots of episodes of the “Food Network” and “Ready, Set, Cook” to keep their skills fresh.
Kristen and Stacy both moved to Chicago in 1998 to pursue careers – Kristen in education and Stacy in human resources. Ten years later, their culinary curiosity resurfaced and they began baking cookies. They baked until the cows came home (this is the Midwest, you know) and found themselves practically rolling in dough (well…maybe not yet).
